Learning How to Raise Money!

Raising money is a full time occupation to members of many "non-profits" that provide services to their communities as well as assistance to those who most in need. Employees working in the money-raising field on a full time basis will tell you that it is not an easy job. In fact it's more like a task, but money-raising (fund raising to some) is essential in order to provide the services for those who depend upon them.

Many not-for-profit organizations specializing in money-raising activities require special tax-exempt status from the United States government in order to retain all or most of the money raised and not have it subjected to taxes or the collection thereof. This special status is legitimized by the issuance of a document commonly referred to as a 501(c)(3) certificate. Religious organizations are by nature non-profit and as such, file for and receive 501(c)(3) certificates; although raising money is not their primary function or reason for existence. Many such organizations have traditionally provided essential services to their communities.
